HEADTEACHER'S WELCOME

Welcome to Little Hayes Nursery School. We are one of twelve local authority maintained nursery schools in Bristol offering high quality early years education for 2, 3 and 4 year olds.

Little Hayes has been at the heart of the local Fishponds community since 1957. The site was originally an open green space enclosed by a hedge, hence the name, from the old English word hayes for hedge. In its long history, the nursery has been attended by several generations of many local families and some of our staff were former parents and pupils. We are always excited to welcome back families, meet new siblings and offer fantastic learning opportunities to the next generation of learners. We strive to provide a welcoming, nurturing, family centred provision and are proud of the role Little Hayes has played in the local community for over 60 years.

In 2018, we federated with Speedwell Nursery School to form the Little Hayes and Speedwell Nursery Schools Federation. Together we have a strong shared ethos and believe that we provide a learning community where children, families and staff learn with and from each other in a spirit of mutual respect and collaboration. We are all ‘learning and growing together’.

I have been working at Little Hayes for nine years, as teacher and then deputy headteacher, and feel privileged to be taking on the role of acting headteacher, following the retirement of Lindsey Fuller in July 2021.  I believe children should be excited to come to nursery, stimulated and challenged and begin to develop a life-long love of learning. I am passionate about continuing to provide outstanding learning opportunities for our children and for our families to feel welcomed, supported and included in their child’s education. I cannot do this job alone and I am supported by an amazing, dedicated and experienced team who are also passionate about giving children the very best start in life.

Hidden behind a large ‘hayes’, our nursery may at first look uninspiring, but our classrooms are light, spacious and well-resourced and we are blessed with an extensive garden and outdoor learning environment. This includes a forest area, sand pit, kitchen garden, mature trees to climb, mud kitchen, amphitheatre, pond, outdoor classroom and climbing equipment.

We hope this website will give you a flavour of what we offer at Little Hayes, but to find out more or to arrange a visit, call the office on 0117 903 0405.

We would love to welcome you and your child to our nursery school.
